Benidorm 2003

Posted by Stefan on September 14, 2003

This was a rapid event that maybe is most famous for the fact that Karpov withdrew from the tournament after forfeiting his first round game against Radjabov. The latter did well in a strong field and came close to winning the whole event, sharing second place with Anand, 0.5 behind Topalov.

Dortmund 2003

Posted by Stefan on September 14, 2003

In Dortmund Radjabov had a good result, finishing with an even score, no more than 0.5 behind Kramnik and Anand. He was well ahead of Leko, while the event was won by a Bologan that had the tournament of his life. Radjabov won with black against Anand after a nice queen sacrifice.

Not one of Radjabov’s better tournaments, even if the field was strong and he did win against a dangerous opponent in Gelfand-Radjabov.
