Radjabov was eliminated by van Wely in rapid tiebreak in this knockout event, after having beaten Flores and Kazhgaleyev.

European Club Cup 2005

European Team Championship 2005

Radjabov drew among others Ivanchuk and Svidler, and scored in total +2 -1 =6 on the first board for Azerbaijan. His wins came against Lutz and in Kotronias-Radjabov.

Ordix Open 2005

By winning the rapid event Ordix Open ahead of among others Aronian, Morozevich and Grischuk, Radjabov qualified for a match against Anand in next year’s Chess Classics in Mainz. One quick win came in Naiditsch-Radjabov, with this final position after 25 moves:

European Championship 2005

Radjabov won silver in the European Championship, with Aronian, Karjakin and Ivanchuk closest behind him. Surprise winner was Nisipeanu. Radjabov scored +7 -1 =5 over thirteen rounds, the loss coming against Karjakin. He won quickly in Radjabov-Naiditsch and Radjabov-Kozul. Some other very nice wins came in Radjabov-Milov and Dreev-Radjabov, the latter with this final position:
