Radjabov scored slightly better than expected in his first Linares start, but no one remembers his exact result, while he did play a game that immediately made him a household name in the chess world. Kasparov hadn’t lost a game in Linares in his five previous starts, had won ten super tournaments in a row, was undefeated with white for seven years and hadn’t lost at all for more than two years.
